Rupert Chawner Brooke (1887-1915), poet, was born at Rugby on 3 August 1887. He was educated at Rugby and at King's College, Cambridge, where he became a Fellow in 1912. He travelled in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and the South Sea islands during 1913 and 1914, before joining the Royal Naval Division.
